What better way to kick off this exciting weekly series than by sharing some Mommy Facts about myself! My goal is to interview a Momma in hopes of finding encouragement, advice, and having good laughs about things that sometimes stress us out.
I became a mother at the age of 24. My husband and I were surprised at how quickly I got pregnant! For the larger part of my pregnancy I could swear I was having a boy. It wasn't until our gender reveal party that I believed we were having a girl! We chose not to reveal our daughter's name to anyone until after she was born - that was our way of maintaining intimacy between the three of us, guaranteeing that something stay private in the world of Facebook & over-sharing.
One of the most surprising things I've discovered as a mother, so far, is how quickly you fall in love with this little person and sacrifice what ever you have to for them. Even when I only get a few hours of sleep, I jump as up soon as that little girl cries. I couldn't have imagined how quickly the transition took place, changing from a wife to a mother. Changing from selfish to more selfless. Changing from thinking I was tired to all out exhausted. But it's totally worth it.
It's funny what becomes second nature after you have children. I don't even think twice before sticking my pinky up my little one's nose to fish out a booger. Before kids, I wouldn't have done that. It'd be weird to stick my finger in someone else's kid's nose anyway. Now it's an emergency situation when I see a booger. I need to get that thing out of there before she has trouble breathing! I've gotten pretty quick at fishing those out.
Breastfeeding has come a lot more naturally to me than I imagined. At the beginning I did experience some pain, but thank goodness for Lanolin! It is great to be able to spend that special bonding time with my daughter while we breastfeed. Breast milk is so good for her, and knowing that makes it easier for me to push through those difficult nursing moments.
What are some things you found yourself doing after you had children that you never thought you'd do? Have there been areas of motherhood that caught you by surprise?
