How is it that the weekends always go by so quickly? I have to admit, I was really hoping this weekend would take its sweet time - today is the hubby's first day back at work, as well as A's first day with her new day sitter! Fortunately Mommy didn't shed any tears dropping her off (I can't speak for later in the day yet), and A seemed her normal, happy self. Today starts a new chapter in our lives, and that is always bittersweet.
This is a perfect segue into introducing today's interviewee! She is a working mom as well, and is dropping her baby boy off at a day sitter today as well! Sarah and I sometimes refer to ourselves as "life twins." We were married the same day, pregnant at the same time, and seem to go through waves of life together. I love her sense of humor, and her baby boy is super cute! Enjoy getting to know her this morning as she welcomes you into a day in her shoes!

What has your experience been like as a working, pumping mother?
I have a love hate relationship with my pump. I really dislike pumping. I call it my labor of Love to Micah. I know breast milk is what's best for him and I know that pumping at work is the only way to provide that nourishment to him. Many people don't understand why I wheel a computer chair into a bathroom three times a day to pump, but I couldn't imagine it any other way.
What is your biggest fear when it comes to your child?
I jokingly said that I wanted to start having children before the fear of raising a child set in. My biggest fear is that I won't be able to provide my child with the skills he needs to be a contributing member to society someday. There has to be a balance between nurturing them and letting them have independence and spread their own wings. I'm afraid we won't achieve that balance. I also fear that in a society of acceptance that he will grow up to have different beliefs than the ones in which he will be raised.
Have you found yourself in a situation you never saw yourself in before - be it a changing a disgusting, messy diaper, going to work dressed in spit up, etc?
One day I went to work and kept getting a whiff of spit up. I had no idea where it was coming from. When I went into the bathroom to pump for the morning, I realized Micah had spit up down my bra. I just laughed and had that little reminder of him throughout my day.
What has excited you most about being a new mom?
I love being a mom! I feel like it was what I was meant to be. The most exciting thing for me is knowing that I have this indescribable bond with someone else that I carried inside of me for 9 months. When he smiles at me and laughs when I enter a room, I just know that everything is alright in this world. I know it won't always be smiles and giggles and that my job is first and foremost to be his mother and not his friend. However, I also know that we have many years of great memories in store.
Thanks again, Sarah! I always love hearing these stories from other Mommas - it's nice to know you're not alone in the craziness we call motherhood! For any of you interested moms reading today, go on over to my Contact page and leave your information so that I can interview you too!
